An essential factor for the success story of the implementation of renewable energy in Güssing is the involvement of research. From the beginning, the EEE has sought the cooperation with research institutions, whereupon the EEE in most cases did not conduct the research as an active player but rather is in the role of coordination and networking. Thus, we are bringing together economy, researchers and equipment manufacturers.
In this way, such a unique innovation as the “fluidised bed steam gasification” technique, as used in the “Güssing biomass powerplant” was able to arise. The biomass powerplant is the centrepiece of research and development in Güssing and the starting point for several other innovations in the fields of biomass-to-liquid (BTL), biomass based synthetic natural gas (BioSNG) and fuel cell technology.
